What is Columbus Hope Ministries?
Columbus Hope Ministries is a multi-housing church planting ministry to reach the large segment of the population living in multi-housing communities such as apartments and government housing projects. We are committed to being obedient to Acts 1:8 and being witnesses here in Columbus. We do not believe one has to go to the ends of the earth to find unchurched people groups. Our desire is to engage, evangelize, and disciple those who live in one of America's largest unchurched people groups, that being the multi-housing communities.
Why Columbus?
- Countless people in Columbus live without hope.
Physical Poverty
- There are over 180,000 people living in Columbus.
- 27% make less than $25,000/yr.
- 5,341 adults have less than a 9th grade education. An additional 9,111 dropped out of high school and have never pursued a GED.
Spiritual Poverty
- 83,788 (46.5%) Columbus residents live in multi-housing communities.
- Of those 83,788 residents, 95% (79,598) do not know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and are not involved with any church.
- People cannot know the hope offered in salvation through Jesus Christ without someone preaching the Gospel so that they can hear (Romans 10:14-17).
- The fields are ripe for the Harvest!
What is Your Method for Church Planting?
Beallwood Baptist Church believes in the sufficiency of Scripture. The Scriptures, which are breathed out by God, are all we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3), and they are given that the man of God might be competent, equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The Bible is our basis for evangelism and church planting.
We build relationships with the community through weekly prayer walking. As we are canvassing the community and praying, we pray for and with residents that we meet. After 7-8 weeks of prayer walking we have built relationships with numerous residents. At this point we begin an evangelistic Bible study with these residents.
All of our Bible studies are written and published through Church Growth International. These Bible studies use the Bible to teach the students the Gospel and teach the students how to use their Bibles. We begin with the Bible Study "Good News for You," which teaches the Gospel through the Book of John. Upon completion of this Bible study, we begin a new one with the new converts called "I Have Been Born Again, What Next?" This study will take the the new converts from a Bible study into a newly formed church. CGI has many more Bible studies that will help strengthen and mature the new church.
How Can You Be Involved?
We currently have Bible studies taking place at two locations. You can contact James Taylor here at the church if you would like to be involved in weekly visitation and evangelism or Bible study. Members of Beallwood can be involved at these sites long term, while other church members would be encouraged to take what they learned and begin a church plant of their own. We desire and are willing to train and equip other churches in the Columbus Baptist Association to sponsor new church starts in other communities. Please contact us if you are interested!
